Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

globulin proteins are proteins which are building blocks for antibodies for your immune system.

Dr. David :

if you don't have an active infection in your body, sometimes serum globulin proteins can be low.

Dr. David :

there are many electrolytes in your blood like sodium (Na), potassium (K), chloride (Cl), bicarbonate (C02), calcium (ca)

Dr. David :

these are charged molecules which help regulate water and go in and out of cells to help with cellular function.

Dr. David :

so the specific electrolyte is important to know which one is low.

Dr. David :

hello?

JACUSTOMER-5y138av1- :

I think it is he sodium level i am just trying to find out

Dr. David :

I see.

Dr. David :

sodium should be between 135 and 145

JACUSTOMER-5y138av1- :

The tests only say serum globulin 22.4

Dr. David :

that is not too low.

Dr. David :

normal serum globulin levels are 2.3-3.5 g/dL or 23-35 g/L

Dr. David :

so 22.4 is not that low?

JACUSTOMER-5y138av1- :

I have been on long term high doses of gabapentin for arachnoiditis I wondered if that could be a cause ?

Dr. David :

no, gabapentin most likely would not cause that.

Dr. David :

I would not worry about a globulin level of 22.4

Dr. David :

that is so close to the normal range of 23-35

Dr. David :

if he doesn't have an infection that is fine.

Dr. David :

this is not a sign of disease.

Dr. David :

does this help?

Dr. David :

do you have other questions?

Dr. David :

hello?
