This is Dr. David
I am sorry that you are having such bad pain in your big toe
you need to have blood testing to check your uric acid levels?
you could also have a bad nail infection or nail growth into the soft tissues
it sounds like you need to see a foot doctor or podiatrist and get blood testing to check for gout.
gout can cause high blood uric acid levels and uric acid crystals can be deposited in the toe and cause pain.
There is no redness surrounding the nail and neither is the nail discoloured once a plaster is placed loosely over this there is no pain whatsoever. I am not a drinker and thought Gout was linked to this?
gout can be flared up if you drink alcohol or if you have too much purines in your diet from meats or cheeses.
gout is not always in those who drink alcohol.
best to get blood testing just to be sure it is not gout.
if it is gout, there are good medications you can take to prevent these painful toe flair ups.
does this help?
