Customer Question

After 20 years of totally controlled epilepsy on Tegretol my 3 yr old son had two petit mals today. He has a jock itch fungal infection with quite a few small lesions around buttocks and thighs, which we have been trying to heal with over the counter fungal creams. Waiting for a skin scraping result. Just finished a course of antibiotics. I am worried why he suddenly had these episodes today, and are they connected with the tinea infection.

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

most likely the fungal infection has nothing to do with the new onset seizures now which is most likely a coincidence with the fungal infection.

Dr. David :

he if has had less sleep recently, or more stress in his life, this can increase risks for seizures from his history of epilepsy.

Dr. David :

he should follow up with his neurologist and see if he would benefit from a new CT or MRI scan of his brain since he is having new symptoms.

Dr. David :

if his seizures continue, he might need his seizure medication increased or changed

Dr. David :

what antibiotics and antifungal creams are you using?
