69 year old female.had sore lips for 10 months without any form of suitable diagnosis from the local g.p.have seen 7 different ones and have had no luck.tried various creams and prescribed madication without any success.have type 2 diabetes.

not burning but at times very painful like a constant toothache and they never swell

this soreness of the lips is a type of burning mouth syndrome

burning mouth syndrome is when a person has a burning sensation in the mouth without any visible effects in the mouth itself

sometimes a variant can cause this soreness of the lips only without any symptoms in the mouth

tricyclic antidepressants like amytriptilline

Capsicain mouth wash: Take hot pepper and mix it in water to the extent that you can tolerate it. Rinse your lips with this two or three times a day. This will desensitize the burning sensation.

discuss with him about burning mouth syndrome and whether this is a variation of this syndrome
