Hi there. Thank you for your question. I will be helping you out with your queries
What is the level of her GGT?
What is her hemoglobin like?
Do you have the results with you?
I just tried copying results can you see them?
Her haemaglobin is 122
level of GGT?
Her ggt is just on 20
what is the normal lab range for this?
It says mildly elevated but I feel that in the absence of any drug to explain the elevation further investigation should be done?
what medication was she on which they think has caused this to happen?
Nothing. Shes never been on anything. She has panadol or nurofen or pain stop when Ill and has had anti biotics for various things. Last anti biotic was about 6 months ago for an ear infection
Yes I think that is the reason why they are doing the coeliac panel i.e. for her symptoms.
Panadol can sometimes cause a rise in liver enzymes.
But a level of 20 is not something that I would worry about too much.
Ulcerative colitis in the family also has nothing to do with this.
Would coeliac disease cause raised ggt
Yes it can.
What does a raised ggt actually mean and is it a good sign that all other markers are within normal range?
Is coeliac disease serious
It does not mean a great deal but you have to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together. Its just a clue to a large number of conditions that can cause a raised level but other things need to be looked at particularly other liver enzymes.
Normal liver enzymes other than GGT is really good and reassuring.
They said its an isolated elevation so im guessing all other liver enzymes are ok
Celiac disease is a condition where the patient has sensitivity or a kind of allergy to a protein that is found in large variety of food stuff i.e. glutein.
If celiac disease is diagnosed she would have to stay on a special diet i.e. gluten free diet.
You are most welcome.
