Around 6 months ago, I had unprotected sex, roughly 2 weeks

Resolved Question:

Around 6 months ago, I had unprotected sex, roughly 2 weeks later I was experiencing itching of the vulva, this got steadily worse until the sensation became more of an unbearable burning. I assumed it was thrush though have never suffered from this before. I was examined by my doctor who said this was probably not the case as there was no unusual discharge. The discomfort lasted around 2 weeks and then went away on its own. Although there were no blisters or lesions I'm terrified that it may be herpes, I had a general Sti test which came back clear, but did not include a herpes test as I had hoped it would have.
I still experience occasional itching though nowhere near as severe ad the first time, and usually only lasts for a few days.
I have also developed a skin condition on my fingers, and on reading about herpetic whitlows, I am now even more concerned. They start out as tiny pin prick looking dots on my fingers, often in small clusters, at this point, they are sore, after a day or so come up as small lumps before hardening into callous type skin. They don't itch, and although they look like tiny blisters, they have no fluid and can't pop them.
Please help as I'm reluctant to go to a private clinic and pay hundreds of pounds for possibly and unnecessary test!!!

OK
Simply have a blood test..it is not 100s of pounds, your doctor can order it. It will show if you are positive for herpes with no problem at this point.

If you have an outbreak again, it should be tested specifically for this.

Was hoping you might be able to suggest some possible alternative causes to my symptoms, seeing as they are not 100% typical of herpes (no lesions) I know that it can be symptom free but would have thought if I were getting some symptoms, It would be strange to not have the most typical one.

Itching without a rash can be for many reasons
iron deficiency, liver or kidney problems, hormonal problems, alcohol or other toxins, B vitamin deficiencies, heavy metal toxicity, hidden infection and hidden malignancy.
A simple lab test called sed rate can help rule out hidden active infection.

And what of the skin irritation on my fingers, does this seem like it could be related, or more likely a form of eczema?

Expert:  DrRussMD replied 3 years ago.
This has a rash apparently, so I would suggest it is not related, more likely eczema or other problem,,,,,but needs examination under magnification.
