Do you have any shortness of breath?
Also do the symptoms worsen with physical exertion?
If you do not have either of the above, heart related problem is unlikely.
i dont have any shortness of breath although i have had a ache in my back and a headache for a while now
did you have any back injury?
no i have had an ache in my back which comes and goes for about 2 months just before i was diagnosed with ibs
do you participate in sports?
no but i excercise regularly around 5 times a week although a little less recently due to stomach cramps
i am seeing a doctor on monday but i am just worried because i have had this numbness for a few days now and it seems to be directly ovver or above my heart
numbness is due to the nerve injury.
what nerve injury?
The nerves supply your chest like tree branches from your back.
so if you have back ache, in other words, it can come to the chest as well as numbness
that is the common explanation.
heart symptoms will be consitently worse with physical activities.
shortness of breath, dizziness will be present.
however, a EKG should be done to rule out any distant possibility of heart problem.
EKG can be ordered by your doctor easily.
Now this type of neuromuscular pain can last for weeks.
ok great is there anything i can do about the back ache?
or is it just a matter of waiting?
But that does not mean something serious underlying condition since there is no other significant new symptoms.
Yes definitely you can.
You can see a chiropractor
Chiropractor can correct your posture, spinal alignment, and also suggest exerises to strengthen the back muscles.
heating pad will help.
ibuprofen ( neurofen) can be taken for pain relief.
ok great thanks i have had some mild dizziness for the last week but i attributed it to heat
could it be linked?
unlikely since it is mild.
and heat related dehydration can cause mild dizziness.
great thanks for the help one final thing in regards XXXXX XXXXX my doctor seems content to just leave it as is (3X135mg mebeverine per day 20 mins before meals) but is there not something else that can be done? or at least some sort of test to prove it is IBS? so far he has just gone off what i have told him
There is no specific test for IBS.
IBS is diagnosed based on symptoms.
There are some medications to help with constipation or diarrhea.
Also diet plays a vital role.
Adequate dietary fibers with low fat meals will be good.
Also eat small portion size for better digestion.
ok thanks my problem with diet is that my oesphagus seems to constrict when i eat meals, my ibs and all problems arose when i choked on some food which the ER told me had damaged my oesphagus, im assuming that all of these problems stem from damage to the nervous system brought on by this
are there any nervous conditions brought on by such a trauma that i could be tested for? as i have had various nerve related issues since
yes this will take some time to heal.
And you can see a gastroenterologist to consider an endoscopy to check out the esophagus well.
i have also been sent to a therapist after my latest appointment with the doctor 2 weeks ago for depression could this be at all linked with the nervous system as i didn't really have any negative thoughts until after damaging my oesphagus and then getting tonsillitis the same week!
Depression can affect your nerves adversely and these symptoms may pop up.
But you should see gradual improvement over time.
THis is a slow process.
great, as iv had so many illnesses over the last 2 months i feel like my immune system must have been dramatically lowered after the damage to my oesphagus or one of the courses of antibiotics after it
are there any medications i can ask for that will boost the immune system?
or will this also fix itself over time?
The immune system will fix by itself.
You can take some anti oxidants like vitamin C, dark green vegetable juices ( kale, collard for example).
great thanks before i leave, i have had a twitching/surge of electricity like feeling in my forehead above left eye which leads to slight numbness in the area and also below the left eye is this an issue i should raise with my doctor or an optician? again im assuming its nerve related
This is also nerve related.
These symptoms are only present for short period of time and without any worsening.
They are more consistent with nerve irritability commonly seen with depression.
Do not worry.
