Ask a Doctor and Get an Answer to Your Medical Question ASAP
Hi there. Thank you for your question. I will be helping you out with your queries
Since how long are you having this throat problem?
For a about a week
Do you have any problems swallowing things?
No, just feels uncomfortable, like when you have catarr after a bad cold
Have you been experiencing a sore throat or a cold prior to the ear problem?
I have had a few colds, last cold I had was middle January
The ear pain that you are having is most likely due to blockage of a tube that connects the ear to the throat, called as the eustachian tube.
This tube gets blocked when one has frequent upper respiratory infections like what you have had.
Another cause, particularly with the feeling of something blocking your throat, is acid reflux into your throat for which you can try OTC zantac and see if that helps.
Trying something like OTC decongestant like sudafed (pseudoephedrine) may help open up the tube
Can it make your jaw feel tight?
Tight jaw can happen due to upper respiratory or throat infections yes.
How long can this take to clear?
Should not take long.
Can breathing in hot steam with eucalyptus help? I have tried sudafed and it hasn't really worked (7 days)
Yes it may help.
You can try taking something like OTC nose spray that contains xylometazoline which may help.
But do not take this spray for more than a week.
Plus I would recommend that you consult an ENT doctor if your symptoms do not improve in the next few days to a week time.
