Hi there, I was recently in hospital for a constipation

Resolved Question:

Hi there,

I was recently in hospital for a constipation and had two enemas. I have been having fairly common bowel movements without too much trouble.

Today though, I had a bowel movement in the morning but I have an awful pain in my bottom now - not sure if it's a pile or what, how can I know?

I really would like to avoid going to doctor!!!

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Hi there. Thank you for your question. I will be helping you out with your queries

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Pain at the bottom indicates an acute anal fissure or a crack in the skin/mucous membrane in the anal canal .

Dr. Shahzad MD :

You should try your level best to keep your bowel movements as soft as possible by taking more fruits and vegetables and fiber supplements like metamucil or benefiber or ispaghula husk.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Meanwhile for the pain you can take over-the-counter lignocaine gel to numb the area.

Customer:

the pain travels up to my tail bone is this normal?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Yes that is normal.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Indicates anal fissure.

Customer:

fissure?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

cut in the anus

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Inside the anus.

Customer:

on right

Customer:

what would have caused that?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

hard stool

Dr. Shahzad MD :

friction

Customer:

oh right i suppose it was large and hard

Dr. Shahzad MD :

yup

Customer:

ok

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Any more questions?

Customer:

any specific diet for constipitation ? haven't been able to find one on the net

Dr. Shahzad MD :

More fruits and vegetables, more fiber in diet, whole grain cereals, brown bread, as much liquids as you can take to keep the stool moist.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Generally speaking those are the main things.

Customer:

ok

Customer:

how will the pain last? does it ease after a while?

Customer:

sitting is quite painful!!!

Dr. Shahzad MD :

It will heal up in due course of time, you should apply lignocaine gel as it will numb it.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Hot sitz baths will also help.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Soaking in warm water 10-20 minutes several times a day will help.

Customer:

sitz?

Customer:

ok

Customer:

does this happen often? i have never been constipitated before - always diarroha !!!!

Dr. Shahzad MD :

sitz means hip

Customer:

ok thanks

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Hip bath in which a person sits in water up to the hips
