It will help if you could provide some further information:
How long have you had the diffuse itching?
Have you had any evaluation for the itching?
What chronic medicines do you take?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

creams was changed to Dovobet gel which seems to tie in

Thank you for the additional information.

The most common cause of diffuse itching is because of excessively dry skin. This can occur in anyone, but there are certain other factors that can increase the risk for dry skin. If you are using metformin for diabetes, this is one of the risk factors for dry skin, and many diabetics also develop diffuse itching.

There also are certain medical problems that can cause diffuse itching, such as liver or kidney dysfunction. Itching also can occur as a result of allergy, although it is less likely to cause itching that has persisted for a month. Chronic inflammatory disorders of the skin also can cause itching, but if it develops as a new symptom that appears to be independent of the inflammation of the skin, it still would be appropriate to consider the other possible causes.

Since dry skin is such a common cause, it is reasonable to try some home interventions before seeing your doctor for further evaluation. One of the best ways to manage the itching that can occur from dry skin is to soak in salt water. This can be done by adding table salt or Epsom salt to warm bath water. After towelling off, a moisturising cream can be applied. It also would be OK to use an antihistamine to help ease the itching, but this is more as symptomatic relief rather than treating an underlying cause. If there were an allergy, an antihistamine would treat the allergy, but since this is less likely to be a cause, it is more for symptomatic relief.

If these interventions ease the itching, then no further evaluation is needed, but if the symptom persists, then it would be appropirate to be seen by your doctor.

If you need any clarification, please let me know.
