I had a sore on my foreskin, it scabbed over and fell off.

Customer Question

I had a sore on my foreskin, it scabbed over and fell off. Underneath is now red and a roughish skin, kind of scaly or flaky.. how is this best treated, and how long will it take too completely heal? could this be from friction? or an std infection?

Customer:

Hello dr k

Dr. K. :

It could be from friction if you actually have a known source of the friction. If this is the case, you can treat with A and D ointment or Neosporin ointment. I would be concerned that it may be a herpes lesion so you should go to a clinic to be tested. Syphilis is also a possibility

Dr. K. :

You will want to be tested for both

Customer:

okay i am in the UK i dont think they sell neosporin here and i have never heard of it? would you know of something else that is used i nthe UK that is similar?

Dr. K. :

Neosporin is a triple antibiotic ointment, they have that.

Dr. K. :

Also have vitamin a and vitamin d ointment

Customer:

okay thanks i will give that a go

Dr. K. :

Good luck. Come back any time you need more help

Hi Dr, i have one more question if that is okay. Should i wait and get tested for an STD before applying the ointments/creams you suggested, or would it be safe to apply them anyway?

Expert:  Dr. K. replied 3 years ago.
If you have a sore and no good explanation how you got it from friction, you should be tested. If its herpes or syphilis, it will get better on its own and you will think its the cream, at that point, testing may not pick it up.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Okay so should i get tested first or just use the cream while I am waiting to get tested?

thanks

Get tested first!
