I have recently had a screening which included blood tests and the results show that my HDL is below the usual range for my age and gender I am female aged 72 what effect does this have on my health and how can I correct it everything else is ok except I am overweight and deficient in vitamin D

There is some indirect evidence that low HDL MIGHT increase risk of coronary artery disease

However, there is no evidence that medicine to improve HDL helps at all

The best treatment is healthy diet and exercise actually

this will improve HDL

I recommend the book "eat to live" by Joel Fuhrman

This is the best diet

Along with 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per week. This will improve HDL
