Customer Question

Hi there
I am suffering for the last week or so from constant aching in my upper back. When I went to bed last night the pain started to become worse on my right side (just under shoulder blade). I am now feeling nauseous & not sure what's causing it. Any idea?

Hello,

I am Dr Ken and I will be helping you today.

Do you have associated symptoms like vomiting/ reflux or fever? Was urine analysis done? Do you have any diagnosed medical condition apart from that already mentioned?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
I feel very nauseous but haven't been sick. My urine showed some white/red cells. The pain in my upper back is just getting worse. Apart from recurrent uti's no.

Emma,

I do understand your concern.

Pain at upper back do not make me think of UTI {Kidney affection would present with pain in lower back}. I would think of irritation of the stomach mucosa {may be due to excess acid secretion/ infection or may be due to excess antibiotic use. abnormality at lung and parenchyma looks less likely.

A physical evaluation along with few investigations like chest x ray/ upper GI scopy and blood tests would give us more answers.

Till than - A glass of cold milk and TUMS should sooth the stomach mucosa. Have balanced diet, adequate fluid/ have multiple small meals instead of few large/ raise the head part of your bed/ avoid lying down immediately after having meal.

Wish you well.
