Over the last couple of months my eyebrows have been falling

Customer Question

Over the last couple of months my eyebrows have been falling out. I have been suffering from eczema but my gp does not think this is the reason why they have been falling out. Ihave had blood tests and my thyroid levels are normal. Ive been given eczema creams but these have not been working. I am really worried. Will my eyebrows ever grow back to the way they were?

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

I am sorry you are having eyebrow hair loss.

Dr. David :

this could be from an autoimmune condition

Dr. David :

you can have autoimmune tests like ESR and ANA blood testing to see if this might be going on.

Dr. David :

also low biotin in your diet can cause hair loss.

Dr. David :

what was your TSH level for your thyroid hormone?

Dr. David :

low iron and low B12 can cause hair loss as well.

Customer:

I do not know the levels of my thyroid hormone but my gp said they were normal. What foods contain biotin?

Dr. David :

here is a good list

Dr. David :

http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/vitamins-minerals/8-foods-rich-in-biotin.html

Dr. David :

Swiss Chard, Carrots, Almonds, Walnuts and Other Nuts, Chicken Eggs, Goat's Milk and Cow's Milk, Berries and Fruits, Halibut, Vegetables

Dr. David :

I would talk to your doctor to get testing to check for autoimmune processes

Dr. David :

there are hair loss autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata which can cause patchy hair loss like loss of eye brow hair.

Dr. David :

make sure your TSH level is between 0.3 and 3.0

Customer:

Will my eyebrow hair ever grow back if treated correctly? If it is autoimmune, are the hair fociles dead forever?

Dr. David :

no, the hair follciles are not dead.

Dr. David :

autoimmune conditions can be treated

Dr. David :

and the hair can come back.

Dr. David :

if it is an autoimmune condition

Dr. David :

but this should be tested for.

Dr. David :

best of luck to you
