Bacterial or parasitic infection is a common cause of explosive diarrhea with mucus.

Simply, stool tests will help to locate any infection.

C difficile is an opportunistic infection often grow in the intestine in some cases.

This can be checked by the stool C difficile toxin assay.

The infection is easy to treat with metronidazole or other antibiotics based on type of infection.

Inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's or ulcerative colitis is another possibility.

Usually, blood in the stool also may be observed.

A colonoscopy will be necessary to look for these possibilities.

Precancerous lesions in the colon can be checked out by the colonoscopy.
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is another possibility that can cause chronic unexplained diarrhea.
bacterial overgrowth can be treated with a medication called Rifaximine for 14 days.

Diet restriction helps with chronic diarrhea.

Intolerance to gluten, lactose containing products is common.
