I have been suffering with pain in my hip bone area (above

Customer Question

I have been suffering with pain in my hip bone area (above the joint) for 6 months. In Dec i also starting getting pain in my back around bra strap level. The doctor did a blood test and referred me for a pelvic ultrasound. All clear. The pain continues. Flexibility all good. Sometimes the pain disappears for a few days and then returns. It is making me feel very low. I returned to the doctor today as very concerned. He checked I could touch my toes and moved my hip joints around and declared me very flexible - it was not uncomfortable at all. My pain feels like an ongoing nagging deep
ache. The doctor dismissed me and prescribed an anti depressant and Tramodol. This is not giving me a way forward and I feel rather helpless. I only feel low and tearful due to the ongoing health issue. Any ideas how I could move this forward? I've thought about private treatment but don't even know what sort of specialist I would need.

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

I am sorry you are having these pains.

Dr. David :

you should at least get a hip xray and a thoracic spine MRI scan to check for pinched nerves and arthritis in the hip.

Dr. David :

if you are overweight, the extra weight on your hip and back can be causing pain as well.

Dr. David :

it sounds like you are starting to get depressed.

Dr. David :

depression can cause pain in some patients. some antidepressants such as cymbalta can help decrease body pains due to depression.

Dr. David :

what antidepressant did he give you?

Dr. David :

are you over weight?

Dr. David :

sometimes physical therapy can help improve range of motion and back strengthen and decrease pain as well.

Customer: Thank you. I am not overweight, a size 10 in clothing. At the current time, there doesn't appear to be any limitation to range of movement. He prescribed Sertraline, 50 mg. I get low because the ongoing pain with no answers makes me fret that something sinister is going on, otherwise all is well and happy in life.
Dr. David :

I see.

Dr. David :

you should go back to your doctor and ask for more scans and xrays of your hip and spine

Dr. David :

to check for arthritis and pinched nerves in your back.

Dr. David :

these could be causing the pain.

Dr. David :

ask if physical therapy could help the pain.

Dr. David :

you might do well with trying to do more walking and exercise regularly.

Customer: Many thanks. I think you're right, I need to be persistent. exercise isn't uncomfortable so yes I can ramp that up.
Dr. David :

exercise can help.

Dr. David :

ask for some xrays and scans.

Dr. David :

try the tramolol as well to see if that helps the pain

Dr. David :

see if the sertraline can help

Dr. David :

that can take 3-4 weeks to start working to help with depression.

Dr. David :

I hope you get better
