Hello. I'm Dr. Phil, licensed and practicing internist. Excellent service is my goal.

Hi there

Do you mean from a medication or counseling standpoint or both?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

both

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I was feeling really good for the past year and last weekend i had too much alcohol and i've made another huge mistake in my life. it's like a domino effect..

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
Thanks for the reply George

I recommend both actually

The studies that have looked at these problems show that both medicine and counseling works but the combination is better than the separate parts.

I would get on an SSRI medication like zoloft first

And do a type of therapy called CBT. Your GP can give you a referral

And he/she can give you the medicine
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Is Cognitive behavioral therapy your area of expertise? Should i give up the alcohol for good - i only drink on weekends!

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
No, it is not but I am very well versed in it

yes you should

alcohol will only worsen things
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

ya, alcohol has made things much worse for me.. made me do things that i would never dream of doing...

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
I'm really sorry George

Alcohol can do that

It is a terrible thing in some people?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

it usually doesn't effect me however there are some instances that it has very damaging consequences. brings me to a very low place at times...

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
I'm sorry George

Then you should avoid it at all costs
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I will avoid alcohol in future...

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
do that and see what happens

you might not even need meds or counseling.

please don't forget a positive rating. I appreciate it
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

do i need to see my gp in order to get the medications? can i get them in a chemist?

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
you need to see your GP
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

do you guys work from home?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

i'm feeling better already.

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.

One thing before i go....

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
thank you kind sir :)

sure no problem
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

do you suffer from anxiety and stress too? maybe lots of professionals like us suffer from it...

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
sometimes

everyone does

but it doesn't interfere with my life
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

it interferes with my life at times but its not often. i need to reduce the alcohol intake at times... stress + anxiety + lots of alcohol are not a good combination.

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
I totally agree

It will probably interfere less without the alcohol
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

have you made some mistakes that you regret?

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
of course.

Everyone has George

That is part of being human

The most important thing is to learn from the mistakes, analyze what you did wrong and grow as a person.

Alchol also stunts this growth because instead of learning from the issue, you avoid it with alcohol
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

my mistakes were two escorts...not good

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

don't wish to revisit that again

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

i see it like this.... one hour of a mistake is only one hour out of 168 hrs in the week 1/168 = 0.0058 of the week. the rest of the week is fine....

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
LOL that is true
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

and i've only made a handful of misjudged errors like those so i's not too bad.....

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
Nope. everyone makes mistakes George
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

oh thanks and i'm feeling better already. exercise will sort me out.

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
