Resolved Question:

I was given a diagnosis of fatty liver caused by alcohol and mood stabiliser medication about a month ago.
I am no longer on any medication and since being given the diagnosis I have not drank alcohol.
My question is: I feel like I'm living like a monk, I had already reduced my alcohol intake considerably, can I still drink moderately!

Dr. Phil, MD :

Nice to meet you

Customer:

and you

Dr. Phil, MD :

what would you consider moderate?

Customer:

I no longer drink at home, but would like to drink socially from time to time, the days of partying all night have long gone

Dr. Phil, MD :

how much at a time?

Customer:

probably up to four glasses of wine, same in pints of beer

Dr. Phil, MD :

I would say 2 maximum

Customer:

ok, sounds reasonable, I am very active, I run and have lost alot of weight, keping myself pretty healthy

Dr. Phil, MD :

that is great

Dr. Phil, MD :

That will help a lot

Dr. Phil, MD :

two drinks is good

Dr. Phil, MD :

there is also evidence that vitamin E 400 IU per day can help with fatty liver

Customer:

I guess what I'm asking is, will a drink maybe once a month of say 4 pints or four glasses of wine do any damage

Customer:

noted

Dr. Phil, MD :

no, absolutely not

Customer:

I feel that I need to relax occasionally and have a background of bpd and emotional problems, I am happy to cut right down and just go out once a month

Dr. Phil, MD :

ok

Dr. Phil, MD :

that won't harm you

Customer:

I dont self medicate

Customer:

ok doc, thanks for that, Ill get checked regularly anyway

Customer:

Thanks for the advice, I know life is full of these, dice rolling issues but I've gotta live!
