These spots have the appearance of solar lentigines (the singular form is solar lentigo). These are benign changes in the skin related to a change in the cells in the skin that contain melanin, the normal pigment in the skin.

It is typical for these changes to become more common and noticeable with advancing age, as this is a response to a lifetime of sun exposure, but there is generally no reason for concern.
