Hello, This an enquiry in regards XXXXX XXXXX 15 month old daughters

Resolved Question:

Hello,

This an enquiry in regards XXXXX XXXXX 15 month old daughters health. She has vomited 3 times today, at irregular intervals.. Roughly 3 to 4 hours between each time she vomited.

She now has diarrhoea as well. ( a symptom that has happened in the evening)

She had a yogurt drink in the morning (Actimel by Denon) and a yoghurt after that. My wife has been feeding this to her every morning for the last 5weeks in the morning. For lunch, she is given rice chicken a vegetables blended together. She is also fed milk in between the meals, just before her nap times.

This is the first time we have encountered this.

She doesn't seems to express a great deal of discomfort and she seems to be quite playful. The diarrhoea has spooked her a little bit but she is otherwise ok.

This is occurred today, we were wondering if this is of a major concern or not?

An opinion would be appreciated.

Dr. Phil, MD :

Hi I'm Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil, MD :

Can I ask your first name?

Customer: Sujit
Dr. Phil, MD :

Hi Sujit

Customer: hello Dcotor
Dr. Phil, MD :

Nice to meet you

Dr. Phil, MD :

Sorry about your daughter

Dr. Phil, MD :

This sounds like a viral infection

Customer: Ok
Dr. Phil, MD :

She must have been exposed to somewhere. Does she go to day care? or have friends that were sick?

Customer: We live in an enclave
Dr. Phil, MD :

ok

Dr. Phil, MD :

Well, I see several good signs here

Customer: She spends most of the time with a nanny
Dr. Phil, MD :

1)she is quite playful

Dr. Phil, MD :

2)she is still eating and drinking

Dr. Phil, MD :

3)she is otherwise doing fine

Customer: But she does play with few of the kids
Customer: She does eat... Not a big fan of drinking water
Dr. Phil, MD :

okay as long as she is drinking something that is okay

Dr. Phil, MD :

I would try to give her pedialyte too

Customer: The diarrhoea only started now
Dr. Phil, MD :

Do you have that in the UK?

Customer: Ok? What is that?
Dr. Phil, MD :

It is like gatorade for kids

Dr. Phil, MD :

helps to rehydrate

Customer: I shall check
Dr. Phil, MD :

ok. standing by

Customer: We have coconut water
Dr. Phil, MD :

okay that works

Dr. Phil, MD :

so try to encourage fluids

Dr. Phil, MD :

that is most important

Dr. Phil, MD :

warning signs are

Dr. Phil, MD :

1)is she becomes less playful or fatigued

Dr. Phil, MD :

2)she won't eat or drink for more than 12 hours

Dr. Phil, MD :

3)she starts to look dehydrated

Customer: Ok
Customer: so far that hasnt happened
Customer: she still drinks milk
Dr. Phil, MD :

good

Customer: but the "not eating or drinking" might happen soon is what i am bit concerned
Dr. Phil, MD :

you have to try and encourage food/fluids

Dr. Phil, MD :

only after 12-24 hours do you need to worry

Dr. Phil, MD :

little kids are actually very tough

Dr. Phil, MD :

and she should be able to beat this virus no problem

Customer: Thats encouraging... My wife is a bit concerned
Dr. Phil, MD :

yes, you should be concerned but don't panic

Customer: not to mention she keeps taking her to the hospital for everything that it has scared the little one.. When she see's anyone is white overalls she freaks out
Dr. Phil, MD :

oh no!

Dr. Phil, MD :

Well that is natural for a child

Dr. Phil, MD :

they don't understand

Customer: Yes
Dr. Phil, MD :

give it a little time before you take her in

Dr. Phil, MD :

12-24 hours to see if she can stay hydrated

Customer: i think i will hold off till tmr
Dr. Phil, MD :

okay Sujit

Dr. Phil, MD :

sounds good

Dr. Phil, MD :

Any more questions for me?

Customer: do u have another alternative for pedialyte or coconut water?
Dr. Phil, MD :

Yes, gatorade

Customer: Its ok?
Dr. Phil, MD :

yes of course

Dr. Phil, MD :

I bought gatorade for all my kids when they were sick

Dr. Phil, MD :

pedialyte is very expensive

Customer: Ok.. I shall do that
Customer: oh ok
Dr. Phil, MD :

yes

Customer: excellent
Dr. Phil, MD :

thank you Sujit :)

Customer: thank you so much
Dr. Phil, MD :

would you be so kind as to rate me excellent before leaving?

Customer: Certainly
Dr. Phil, MD :

thank you Sujit
