I started experience slight sensitivity to my eye last night.

I started experience slight sensitivity to my eye last night. I have had a small lump underneath since last May but generally gives me no problems.

I have had a cough and cold for the past 7 days othwerwise than that I am healthy.

It had some discharge this morning when I woke.

This small lump that you are having is most likely what we call as chalazion and this is due to a bacterial infection of a gland in the eye.
This will most likely require consultation with an eye doctor and removal by a small procedure.
