Hi there. Thank you for your question. I will be helping you out with your queries
Its not possible for HIV to be transmitted in the way that you mentioned.
The reason why I say that is because HIV virus dies very quickly when exposed to air and will die as soon as the blood dries out.
HIV cannot be transmitted in this way therefore there is nothing to worry about.
Welcome. Let me know if you have more questions after reading my posts above.
What about if the blood was on there after he had just pricked himself then I pricked myself
Even in that case it would be extremely unlikely.
Even if there was fresh blood on there, even then there would be one in a million chances of you getting it.
Oh I am still worried, about it do I need to be?
You do not need to be worried at all.
I understand that you are thinking about this too much.
Should I go for a test? even though I have to declare it to Insurance companies
For your peace of mind you can get tested.
But testing is not required for this reason only as there is no risk of transmission this way.
how does that happen
You can get an over-the-counter test if that is available in UK.
You should test yourself at least six to eight weeks after your presumed exposure.
No its not available
You can ask your GP.
I feel that getting tested will make my OCD about it worse
Yes it may and I think that a consultation with a psychiatrist may help by prescribing you medication to reduce your anxiety.
Please Please reassure me that I don't have HIV, am I worrying over nothing?
I find that going into normal life will put me at risk, Like the reason above I am so scared.
You do not have it.
You are just worrying too much.
But as you suggested to have a test has made me think I could have it
I just suggested a test for the peace of your mind.
Otherwise you do not need a test.
As there is no chance of you having HIV at all.
Should I tell myself that I don't have anything to worry about? and Keep saying to myself that I have not caught HIV through that pin prick?
You have not caught HIV trust me.
Yes you have nothing to worry about.
Not through pricking myself and the vicar pricking himself? Sorry Doctor this worry is all to do with being misdiagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and Bad Diagnoses with Breast Cancer.
Thank you Dr for being so patient with me, I am sorry I have been stupid.
