Resolved Question:

Hi - I seem to be having an issue with my back passage - I am not sure if it is Haemorrhoids or something else - I have had a swelling for a long time (months now) but with no pain whatsoever, occasionally small amount of blood in stool - this week I woke up and it was very painful. I have applied some anusol cream but it's still painful - I can actually push the swelling back into my passage somewhat which eases the pain for a while - any suggestions? apart from book a doctors appointment (I will do this, but am travelling all next week and could do without the pain)

Hello,
Dear customer

Welcome to justanswer.com and thank you for your question.
I'm so sorry to hear of your discomfort due to pain in anus.I will do whatever I can to help answer your questions:

The symptoms of swelling/lump in anus you have described is most probably & most likely because of hemorrhoids.

The swelling & occasional small amount of blood in stool you were having in past was early symptoms of hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids are swollen, inflamed veins around the anus or lower rectum.Too much pressure on the veins in the pelvic and rectal area causes hemorrhoids.

You need:

-Rectal examination
-Anoscopy
-Stool examination

The treatment of hemmorhoids includes

-Local anesthetics like Benzocaine 5% to 20% (Americaine Hemorrhoidal)

-Apply vasoconstrictors like Ephedrine sulfate 0.1% to 1.25%.These make the blood vessels become smaller, which may reduce swelling.

Both of these creams are available as over the counter(OTC) without prescription & will help you greatly.

When you come back, you need to consult your doctor as oral prescription medications may then be required accordingly.

Also increase the quantity of fruits and vegetables as they contain lots of fiber to prevent the constipation.

Hope this helped.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have gotten anything less, please reply back, I am happy to address follow-up questions.

Thank you XXXXX

Apart from the obvious, would or can you recommend anything pain wise?

Expert:  Dr. Robert replied 2 years ago.
Dear Customer,
Thank you for asking follow up question.

Following is recommended for pain relief:

-Benzocaine 5% to 20% (Americaine Hemorrhoidal) cream contains local anesthetics & will provide great relief from pain.

-Have sitz bath that is soak your anal area in plain warm water 10 to 15 minutes two to three times a day.

-Apply ice packs or cold compresses on your anus to relieve swelling.

-If still the pain persists, then apply menthol 0.1% to 1.0%.These are available as OTC without prescription.

Please do not forget to rate my answer as positive,as this is the only way by which we(experts) get paid for the service.
