My eyes are red and chapped on the skin around them. Mainly

Resolved Question:

My eyes are red and chapped on the skin around them. Mainly the skin below them. My eyes have been irritated on and off for a few months now but never as seriously they have been lately. I never had this problem before I started University. My eyes water frequently during the day and it has been very painful for me to look at any sort of electronic screen today. I am getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night but am constantly tired. I have been sneezing regularly and find it very hard ti consentrate or keep things in short term memory.

It will be a number of days before I can see a doctor but I still need to get work done in the meantime.
What is my best course of action to stop my eye pain and what might I have?

NCFamilyDoc :

Do you typically have allergies this time of the year??

Customer:

my only diagnosed allergy is a nut allergy. I have no experiance with hayfevour

Customer:

sorry if any of responses are delayed I'm typing from a smartphone

NCFamilyDoc :

Have you tried lotions or vaseline applied to the skin around your eyes??

Customer:

I have tried applying regular facial

NCFamilyDoc :

does it help at all??

Customer:

Sorry typo

Customer:

I have tried applying regular facial moisturiser and vitamin E oil but it's a very short term relife

Customer:

It lasts maybe an afternoon at best

NCFamilyDoc :

I would recommend that you take a non-sedating antihistamine such as Cyterizine or Fexofenidine (Zyrtec or Allegra) once daily and that you apply 1% hydrocoritisone cream to the skin around your eyes

NCFamilyDoc :

It sounds like you have Periorbital Dermatitis

NCFamilyDoc :

This is usually due to allergies.

NCFamilyDoc :

There are also some allergy eye drops that you can use, but they need to be prescribed by a physician.

Customer:

So like a allergy to pollon? And would that treatment be purchasable in any pharmacy?

NCFamilyDoc :

Yes, allergy to the season (mainly pollen)

NCFamilyDoc :

Yes, Allegra and Zyrtec are available in the States over the counter without the need for a prescription. Hydrocortisone is also sold in a pharmacy without a prescription.

Customer:

I'm seeing someone on Monday who can prescribe me what I need. Is there anything you can suggest to help

NCFamilyDoc :

Patanol or Besivance

Customer:

thank you very much for your help.

NCFamilyDoc :

You're very welcome. Good luck

Customer:
