Hello. I'm Dr. Phil, licensed and practicing internist. Excellent service is my goal.

This is most likely liver failure

The liver stops working then accumulates fluid in the belly

The GGT supports that
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

What's the prognosis? Is it pretty final or can it be reversed?

Expert:  Dr. Phil, MD replied 3 years ago.
At her age it seems bad.

If it is acute liver failure, she might recover

If it is chronic and has been there for a while I doubt it
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Sorry, what is an internist (presumably not the same as an intern?) Secondly, could you estimate a timescale if its the chronic version of liver failure - ie how long might she live for

Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Relist: Other.
Perfectly happy with the answer so far but he seems to have gone offline and I'm keen to get the final part of my question answered

Sorry an internist is an adult doctor in the states that specializes in the elderly.

If it is chronic she might actually live a few more years it just won't get better
