This is Dr. David
you might not have a UTI
this urgency could be due to overactive bladder muscles which are going into spasms.
you might need to see a urology specialist and get tried on bladder spasms medications like vesicare or detrol
which can help decrease bladder muscle spasms.
My GP told me I had cystitis. I have cystitis 8 years ago with exactly the same symptons and this cleared up immediately with medication.
antibiotics can help decrease inflammation of the bladder called cystitis.
but it is not normal to have cystitis for 8 years.
you could have something called interstitial cystitis which can be very painful inflammation of the bladder.
you do need to ask to be referred to see a urology doctor
so you can have a cystosocpy to look inside of your bladder.
Sorry, I meant I had an attack of cystitis 8 years ago and it cleared up within a couple of day.
that cystitis 8 years ago could have been a real urinary tract infection.
the best way to know if there is a bacterial urinary tract infection is to culture the urine and grow out the bacteria in the urine
this is called a urine culture test.
then that bacteria can be tested against different antibiotics to see which one works.
there are some bacteria which have become resistant to certain antibiotics.
that is called antibiotic resistance.
I hope your doctor did a urine culture.
Maybe I need to take a sample to my GP. My question was do you think I should be more patient with the Selexid
your GP should have asked for a sample when the trimethoprim was not working.
I would finish the Selexid
and if you still have urgency at that point, ask for a referal to a urologist
to be tested for overactive bladder condition.
Do you think I should be seeing an improvement by now?
if it was a true bacterial bladder infection, yes, you should have gotten better by now.
or you could have a small bladder stone irritating your bladder making you have urgency.
Ok thank you. I am very worried to have any invasive examination.
you are welcome
best of luck to you
I hope your symptoms get better
