Customer Question

I fell onto a hard wooden floor straight onto my kneecap. There is nothing to see but it is numb to touch ( brush finger lightly over surface) but if I press on it , kneel, knock it it's extreem pain like fire! On surface not deep inside! Sort of between the skin and the knee cap? Been like this for over a week! Any suggestions?

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

you need to see a doctor and get an xray of the knee

Dr. David :

you could have fractured your patella or caused a bone bruise there.

Dr. David :

you should ice your knee to help decrease inflammation and pain

Dr. David :

you most likely hit a nerve on the skin on your knee and this has caused this numbness on the skin.

Dr. David :

have you tried to ice your knee yet?

Customer: No I hant done any treetment apart from try not to touch it!
Customer: If it is not touched directly I wouldn't know there was anything wrong!
Customer: After a week there is a slight bruise to be seen but no change otherwise!
Dr. David :

it sounds like you bruised the bone there

Dr. David :

or injured a nerve there

Dr. David :

that is why it is numb

Dr. David :

you should try to ice your knee

Dr. David :

and get an xray of your knee

Customer: So will a bruised bone get better with time if left alone??
Dr. David :

to make sure there is not a microfracture there.

Dr. David :

yes, a bruised bone will get better with time.

Customer: Wouldn't a fracture hurt on movement of knee joint?
Dr. David :

a hairline fracture may not hurt

Dr. David :

I am glad you are able to move your knee.

Dr. David :

resting the knee and it should get better on its own.

Customer: What would treatment be IF it was fractured?
Dr. David :

you might need a cast or a knee brace.

Customer: I can run, play tennis sit, stand do antything with no pain..APART from touch he surface,
Dr. David :

I see.

Dr. David :

I bet you bruised the bone pretty severely

Dr. David :

and damaged a nerve there right on the skin.
