I have a small lump appeared on my lower lip today. I am thinking

Resolved Question:

I have a small lump appeared on my lower lip today. I am thinking it could be a std as gave oral yesterday. It was small bit seems to be got bigger feeling big. The color of it is like a blister just looked now with clear fluid and is pink color in the middle. Would it be safe for me to pop this?. What could this be?. As so have been rinsing my mouth with sea salt a few times helping. Is this more a cyst?. As have never had this before in my mouth. The thing is on my lower lip left hand side. Please help.

Dr. Natasha :

hello

Dr. Natasha :

welcome to the chat

Dr. Natasha :

are you still there?

Dr. Natasha :

If so, please type hello so we can chat :-)

Customer:

hello

Dr. Natasha :

FYI, there is no way this is from an STD- they don't appear that quickly

Dr. Natasha :

they take at LEAST a few days to have symptoms :-)

Dr. Natasha :

This sounds like a mucocele

Dr. Natasha :

it is a benign cyst which appears on the lips and mucosa

Dr. Natasha :

it is from a plugged duct

Dr. Natasha :

it is on the inside of the lip, correct

Customer:

Ok so what do I need to do to fix this?. Yes the inside.

Dr. Natasha :

sure, if you want, you can pop it

Dr. Natasha :

they usually just go away on their own

Dr. Natasha :

make sure you sterilise the needle first

Dr. Natasha :

then you can do the rinsing of your mouth

Customer:

ok then salt wash?. how can I prevent a blocked duct from happening again?.

Dr. Natasha :

how many times have you had this before?

Customer:

This is my first time.

Dr. Natasha :

yes (the salt wash)

Dr. Natasha :

They are pretty infrequent

Dr. Natasha :

there is nothing really to do to avoid them

Dr. Natasha :

you may get this once every few years, if even that

Customer:

Ok thank how long do they on average take to go down?. Are the std if I did oral while it healed?.

Dr. Natasha :

if you pop it, goes down right away

Dr. Natasha :

otherwise a few days, maybe a week

Dr. Natasha :

what does this mean:

Dr. Natasha :

Are the std if I did oral while it healed?.

Dr. Natasha :

I am sorry , I am not sure what that last question means

Customer:

Sorry is this a risk if I did oral sex

Dr. Natasha :

No, completely unrelated

Customer:

ok thanks thats all needed to know.

Dr. Natasha :

no problem

Dr. Natasha :

will check in with you in a week to see how you are doing

Dr. Natasha :

BTW, I have popped mine before :-)

Customer:

ok
