This is Dr. David
an arachnoid is one of the three protective layers which cover the brain and spinal cord.
an arachnoid cyst is a fluid filled pocket or balloon coated in arachnoid cells which is on the surface of the brain.
if a cyst or balloon gets large enough, it can press on the brain itself. and sometimes cause headaches.
are you having severe headaches. how large is the cyst on the MRI scan?
its my daughter she is 16 and has dreadful headaches the cyst is a large cyst its about 5cm I think. what does the distortion of the adjacent right temporal pole mean? is that a normal finding because the neurologist says the result is normal. Is it normal if there is distortion?
are you there?
sorry about her headaches.
cyst of 5cm is large.
the cyst is pressing on her brain.
that is what distortion of the adjacent right temporal pole
she needs to see a neurosurgeon and have the cyst drained.
that might help with the headaches.
I have to see a patient.
I'll be right back.
Dr David, don't go just Yet? we have a problem. She cannot walk at all and has vertigo is it the mayo clinic in America that specialise in these cysts?
sorry Dr David its around 3cm just measured it on the paper. is that large or not too bad now. Would she still need it drained.
there are many good neurosurgery departments in the USA.
3cm is still good size, larger than 1inch
she needs to see a neurosurgeon in the UK
and have it drained
it could help her headaches.
