Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

have you been going glutten free in your diet?

Dr. David :

you might need to see a GI doctor and get a colonoscopy to see if your colon is inflamed.

Dr. David :

you could be having colitis, ulcerative colitis or other bowel inflammation causing the mucus

Dr. David :

have you had a colonoscopy before?

Customer:

is this an early sign of bowel cancer as i am really worried

Dr. David :

no, it is not an early sign of bowel cancer.

Dr. David :

I am a cancer doctor.

Dr. David :

cancer usually bleeds

Dr. David :

mucus tends to be a sign of bowel inflammation, bowel irritation or bowel allergy.

Dr. David :

have you been trying to stick to a glutten free diet?

Customer:

I've been so worried as i know bowel cancer is an hereditary cancer which my mothers father suffered from. i do follow a relatively gluten and wheat free diet but have just felt so ill

Dr. David :

I see.

Dr. David :

given your family history, it would be a good idea and get a colonoscopy

Dr. David :

see a GI doctor and get your stools tested for microscopic blood

Dr. David :

and see why your colon is producing mucus.

Dr. David :

you should also get a colon wall biopsy during the colonoscopy.

Dr. David :

this can check for if you have a true celiac spruce disorder or bowel allergy to glutten.

Dr. David :

don't stress about colon cancer.

Dr. David :

we don't tend to see colon cancer in patients at your age.

Dr. David :

let me know if you have questions.

Dr. David :

Dr. David :

menopause would not tend to cause mucus discharge from the colon or rectum.

Dr. David :

do you have any other questions?

Customer:

its been the immense tiredness too, and just lack of go get when I'm normally very fit and active

Dr. David :

menopause can definitely cause fatigue

Dr. David :

you should get your iron and thyroid hormone levels checked

Dr. David :

and B12 levels checked as well.

Dr. David :

low thyroid hormone levels, low iron, anemia, low B12 can all cause fatigue.
