I just wanted to know since modified release venaflaxine was effective earlier and thrn by mistake they didnt give modified release that made me queasy and then yje dr stopped my medication for 6 weeks and started me 5 days ago on citalopram ,since my depression is very severe ,shouldnt I start venaflaxine since it suited me earlier . Rather than doing trial or error with citalopram ,isnt it better to start venaflaxine

Expert:  Dr. D. Love replied 2 years ago.
If the venlafaxine caused significant side effects recently, we would typically prefer to change to an antidepressant in a different chemical class, such as the citalopram. If it has been a longer period of time, it would make more sense to try the venlafaxine again. But with a recent experience of side effects from the drug, it would usually be preferred to try a different drug.

However, there are exceptional circumstances. For example, in someone in whom several different antidepressants have been tried without success, a particular drug is found to work well for that person, but is also found to cause side effects, we may prefer to continue the drug that has finally been found to be effective, and either see whether the side effect diminishes over time or consider separate intervention for management of the symptom. We typically do not consider this unless the person has been tried on numerous previous medicines, but it is appropriate for certain situations.

The modified release did not cause side effects at all. It was when the dr tapered to the plain ,non modified release caused side effects

Expert:  Dr. D. Love replied 2 years ago.
Why did the doctor taper it from 75 to 37.5? The other day, it appeared that this was done because of side effects.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Oh no. He tapered as I was feeling better

Expert:  Dr. D. Love replied 2 years ago.
If you were doing well on the 75 mg dose of venlafaxine XR with good control of depression and only developed the queasiness when tapered to 37.5 mg of immediate release venlafaxine, it would be logical to resume the venlafaxine XR 75 mg once daily.

That makes sense. Thank you. If I need further assistance can I get a response from you. I noticed I asked some questions earlier after I rated you then didnt hear from u

Expert:  Dr. D. Love replied 2 years ago.
Yes, you can request me as you did today. I'm not sure what you posted that did not receive a response, because when I review each of the other questions with which I was involved, the last post on each thread is the answer that I provided to the most recent question. There are no other questions that are present after my last post.

You're welcome.

One last thing. Sorry. It is extremely hard to manage till the medicine works .

it feels like life hits rock bottom despite everything being so good. Feel like I am sinking ,lack of motovation ,drive , no pleasure ,life feels bland and numb and empty. It is sad despitr circimstances being good. When can I feel uplifted. I have no appetite , bot sleeping well and feel extremely down.

.It takes very long before one can see any improvement. How does one get pre disposed to this condition if circimstances are very favourable

Expert:  Dr. D. Love replied 2 years ago.
We do not fully understand why some people are predisposed to this but not others. There appears to be a genetic component, and certain stressful life events may affect the risk of depression, but there are many people in whom no specific reason for developing depression can be identified.
