My husband has been having pain in the left buttock for about

Customer Question

My husband has been having pain in the left buttock for about 6 weeks now. It is quite severe and occurs as soon as he stands up and often in the morning he has to get back into bed after standing up because of this pain.

It gets worse on walking and he has to sit down every so often when he has to sit down, which improves the pain slowly. He describes it as nagging, and it radiates down the back of his thigh. It did not go beyond the knee level but today there is calf pain as well.

It does not affect his golf swing, only the walking on the golf course.

About 2 years ago had left rotator cuff problems which was investigated. Steroid injections improved. This shoulder causes pain at rest esp at night but does not affect function.

HI
I am a double board certified US doctor of internal medicine and integrative medicine. I will give you an initial answer or ask a question. Use reply to expert as needed to communicate with me.
I changed the format since I have not heard from you.

Most likely a problems with arthritis in the lower spine.

This needs a structural exam, and probably and MRI, followed by the correct manual and medial therapies.

Physical therapy.
Maybe injections.
Maybe traction.

A physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist MD is the best doctor to see, in my experience.
