I very stupidly drank far too much for several years. Was warned

Customer Question

I very stupidly drank far too much for several years. Was warned by my GP to cut down 6 years ago. I had periods when I didn't drink at all but when I did I always had too much. I have stopped again now. I did get swollen ankles, felt tired constantly and sometimes felt sick. Now I have stopped my ankles are no longer swollen, I have far more energy but Have been having terrible sweats during the night and day. I am a 51 year old woman so know that could be due to the menopause. I have been reading so many things about liver disease so don't know if I'm imagining I have all the symptoms. I feel an absolute idiot for not listening to my GP 6 years ago.

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

I am glad you have stopped drinking

Dr. David :

you should get blood work to assess your liver function currently and see what your liver enzymes are at this point.

Dr. David :

and check your AST, ALT, GGTP and LDH levels

Dr. David :

and get a liver ultrasound as well.

Dr. David :

that is good your ankles are no longer swollen.

Dr. David :

this is a good sign that your liver is most likely making albumin protein to keep fluid in your blood vessels from leaking out into the soft tissues.

Dr. David :

you can become healthier by eating right, and not drinking and not smoking and exercising

Dr. David :

and this will improve your liver health.

Dr. David :
