This is Dr. David
there is a chance that lupus could be causing these symptoms
why do you think you have lupus?
have you had testing for ANA or anti nuclear antibodies and ESR?
antibodies to double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) tests, antibodies to histone tests, antibodies to phospholipids, antibodies to Ro/SS-A and La/SS-B, antibodies to Sm target Sm proteins in the cell nucleus, antibodies to RNP target ribonucleoproteins
Have only had tests to rule out MS and other neurological disorders i.e MRI/CAT scans, EEG and lumbar puncture.
well, you need more blood test like ANA and ESR to check for lupus.
the lumbar puncture showed no evidence of MS?
No, fluid was clear and I have reflexes. Incidentally, for more than 25 years I suffered from persistent and severe outbreaks of herpes simplex with excruciating accompanying neuralgia and extreme fatigue.
if the herpes or viral infection had entered the CNS, the spinal tap would have seen antibodies to herpes virus in the CNS fluid.
So, it's worth testing for lupus?
ANA and ESR are very easy and common screening test for autoimmune diseases like lupus.
it would be a good idea to rule this out
do you have any other questions?
My final question is, having suffered from panic attacks and chronic, long-term stress, could this have exacerbated my problem and compromised my immune system?
usually excessive anxiety disorder and panic attack does not compromise the immune system.
however, if your anxiety is causing you not to sleep and not to eat, then this can effect your immune system negatively.
excessive anxiety can cause vertigo and dizziness and episodic ataxia as well.
