Customer Question

I have a pulsing in my left ear which is very annoying. I've had it for over 24 hrs now. This happened about 3 months ago, but it went away after 2 days. Should I have it seen to? Or is it a type of Tinnitus? What should I do?

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

yes, you should have it seen to

Dr. David :

and see a doctor to look in your ear.

Dr. David :

it could be from excessive wax in your ear

Dr. David :

or from an inner ear infection.

Dr. David :

or fluid in your inner ear

Dr. David :

hello?

Customer:

Yes hello. is that all you can tell me?

Dr. David :

without examming your ear, it is impossible to know what is causing the pulsing sensation.

Dr. David :

it could be from excessive ear wax

Dr. David :

or an infection in your ear.

Dr. David :

those would be the most common issues.

Dr. David :

infections can be either bacterial or viral infections.

Dr. David :

bacterial infections would need a course of antibiotics.

Customer:

you havent commented on Tinnitus - could it be that?

Dr. David :

have you had a bacterial ear infection before?

Dr. David :

it could be tinnitus. but that is only after ear infection and other issues have been ruled out.

Customer:

No I havent had a bacterial ear infection before.

Dr. David :

do you have a GP doctor?

Customer:

Yes I have a GP

Dr. David :

your GP can check and look in your ear and check for infection and excessive ear wax

Dr. David :

and see if a course of antibiotics can help clear up the pulsing sensation.

Dr. David :

if it went away after 2 days, then it is not tinnitus.

Dr. David :

most likely it was just a mild ear infection

Dr. David :

which went away on its own.
