Gluten intolerance usually will cause stomach upset, diarrhea.

Dr Basu :

Gluten intolerance is also known as celiac disease.

Dr Basu :

Severe forms of this disease can cause neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Dr Basu :

Symptoms like headache, peripheral neuropathy, ataxia ( lack of balance during walking), depression, dysthymia ( milder form of depression), anxiety, and epilepsy have been reported.

These symptoms are thought to be related to multiple vitamin deficiencies vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6,B12 and E associated with celiac disease

There is also increased risk of lymphoma and malignancies with celiac disease.

Also arthritis and bone loss related symptoms may be aggravated.

Gluten intolerance can be tested with following tests:

1. Blood tests for anti gliadin and anti TTg antibodies.
