Hi there I am worried about ALS. I have had a should/arm

Resolved Question:

Hi there
I am worried about ALS. I have had a should/arm pain and weakness for about a month, along with pins and needles in my fingers and toes. I have a lot of twitching all over my body, it jumps from one place to the next, along with a flicker on the side of my face and eye. I saw a dr yesterday and he checked my reflexes and strength which are fine, and said not to worry about ALS, but it is the constant twitches that are really bothering me as he didn't check or look at them. Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Lucy

Hi I'm Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil, MD :

Can I ask your first name?

Customer: Lucy, sorry just worked out how to do this, have you seen my question regarding ALS.? Thanks
Dr. Phil, MD :

Yes I did

Dr. Phil, MD :

nice to meet you Lucy

Dr. Phil, MD :

why are you worried about ALS?

Customer: It's mainly the loss of strength and pain in my arm and in particular the constant twitching which is new to me
Dr. Phil, MD :

is it one arm only?

Customer: Yes the one arm
Dr. Phil, MD :

ok

Dr. Phil, MD :

ALS would be all over

Dr. Phil, MD :

I suspect this could be a pinched nerve in your neck causing this

Dr. Phil, MD :

this often causes arm symptoms like this

Customer: what about the new twitching it is visible, in my calfs, hands, upper arms even neck
Dr. Phil, MD :

possible then yes

Dr. Phil, MD :

I would get an EMG

Dr. Phil, MD :

this test will show both pinched nerves and rule out ALS

Customer: Ok I will ask my doctor for one thanks
Dr. Phil, MD :

you're welcome :)

Dr. Phil, MD :

any more questions?

Customer: When you say "possible then yes" do you mean it's possible it's ALS?
Dr. Phil, MD :

I doubt it but there is a rare chance

Customer: Ok thanks no more questions
Dr. Phil, MD :

ok

Dr. Phil, MD :

would you mind rating me positive before leaving?

Dr. Phil, MD :

I greatly appreciate it Lucy :)
