Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

i am a cancer doctor

Dr. David :

how old are you?

Dr. David :

if you are worried about lung cancer, why are you still smoking?

Dr. David :

you need to stop smoking.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

I am 25

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

I smoke 20 cigarettes a day and have been for 12 years within those 12 years I smoked crack cocaine for 3 years but have stopped smoking crack cocaine now. I am worried about how much damage I have done to my lungs and if I have a increased risk of lung cancer.

Dr. David :

there is a small increased risks for lung cancer.

Dr. David :

but you can cut those risks down by stopping smoking.

Dr. David :

and the sooner you stop smoking, the sooner you start lowering those future risks for lung cancer.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

What does smoking crack cocaine do to your lungs

Dr. David :

it damages your lungs just like smoking.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

has it the same effect as smoking cigarettes

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

to the same extent?

Dr. David :

yes.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

has it the same carcinogenic effects as cigarettes

Dr. David :

yes.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

how comes?

Dr. David :

are you willing to talk to your doctor and get into treatment programs to help quit smoking?

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

I want to stop

Dr. David :

good.

Dr. David :

you need to use nicotine patches or gums to quit

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

but would like to know the damage I have done

Dr. David :

or use chantix or wellbutrin to quit

Dr. David :

the best way is to get a pulmonary function test and chest xray to look at your lungs

Dr. David :

to assess your lung function at this point.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

I feel fine

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

and just would like to put things into perspective

Dr. David :

if you quit smoking before age 40, you can decrease your risks of lung cancer.

Dr. David :

but I would not wait until age 40.

Dr. David :

I would quit as soon as possible.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

in your opinion based on the information I have given you. Smoking 20 a day for 12 years and within those years also smoked crack cocaine as well as continually smoking cigarettes what damage would you say I have done and have I a increased risk of lung cancer?

Dr. David :

you have done some damage but not irreparable damage.

Dr. David :

you have increased your lung cancer if you continue to smoke

Dr. David :

but if you quit smoking now, you can decrease your risks for lung cancer, every year you quit smoking, you drop your risk of future lung cancer.

Dr. David :

and after another 10-15 years of not smoking, your lung cancer risk goes down to normal population risks.

Dr. David :

but you have to quit.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

right now what is my risk of lung cancer

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

after all the information I have told you

Dr. David :

your risk now of developing cancer at age 25 is super super super super super low.

Dr. David :

we don't see patients get lung cancer at age 25.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

even after smoking 20 a day for 12 years and also smoking crack cocaine for three years

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

even after smoking 20 cigarettes a day for 12 years and also smoking crack cocaine for three years

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

even after smoking 20 cigarettes a day for 12 years and also smoking crack cocaine for 3 years

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

Dr. David :

you keep asking the same questions.

Dr. David :

Dr. David :

but you keep smoking.

Dr. David :

you need to talk to your doctor about treatments for your anxiety if you keep worrying about lung cancer.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

for your lungs

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

I just would like to know the damage I have done

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

Dr David

Dr. David :

I have said both smoking is equally bad for your lungs.

Dr. David :

you can only know the damage if you get pulmonary function testing.

Dr. David :

to check the status of your lungs

Dr. David :

you won't get lung cancer now.

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

ok I understand

JACUSTOMER-mge6h4z6- :

Dr. David :

yes,

Dr. David :

you keep mentioning the same thing.

Dr. David :

you can't seem to get over this

Dr. David :
