Hello, I had a clean colonoscopy September 2010, and clean

Customer Question

Hello,
I had a clean colonoscopy September 2010, and clean upper endoscopy December 2010
Only found a 4 cm Hiatus Hernia.
Symptoms of IBS diagnosed after the above procedures.
March 2014 I had bright red blood mixed in with faeces.
Do I need another colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy? Can I assume that from 2010 to march 2014 Nothing sinister would have developed.
No repeat blood on stool since that one time march 2014.
Thanks

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

how old are you?

Dr. David :

do you have hemorrhoids?

Dr. David :

bright red blood can mix with mucus if you have bad constipation and trauma to hemorrhoids from large hard stools.

Dr. David :

yes, most likely nothing sinister would have developed in 4 years

Dr. David :

if you had a colon cancer, that would continue to bleed.

Dr. David :

but because your bleeding stopped march 2014, that is more likely to be from hemorrhoids.

Dr. David :

let me know if you have questions.

Customer:

Hello I am 40 years old and do have constipation, I hvae an anal tag from external hemorrhoids. The GI consultant didnt mention if I have internal hemorrhoids in 2010 when I had the colonoscopy.

Customer:

Stool that had blood on it was very hard, I had been constipated for 3 days.

Customer:

I spoke to my GI and he said that I could do a sigmoidoscopy to put my mind at rest. All further stool test came back negative for blood, so I put it off.

Customer:

how long does a poly take to grow, can one grow in 4 years?

Customer:

Dr David, waiting for reply

Dr. David :

I was driving home from work.

Dr. David :

internal hemorrhoids can definitely bleed.

Dr. David :

sounds like it was hard stools which caused the bleeding back in march.

Dr. David :

polyps can grow in 5-10 years.

Dr. David :

but if it was a polyp bleeding, it would have continued to bleed.

Dr. David :

and your bleeding has stopped.

Dr. David :

so it is not a polyp which is bleeding.

Dr. David :

it was your hemorrhoids which caused bleeding back in march since the bleeding has stopped.
