Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

yes, this can be lowered.

Dr. David :

you have to avoid alcohol and excessive acetomenophen products taken

Dr. David :

like paracetamol

Dr. David :

the normal range of ALT is 10 to 40 international units per liter (IU/L)

Dr. David :

do you drink alcohol?

Dr. David :

you should also get testing to check for hepatitis viral infection

Dr. David :

and get an ultrasound of your liver to check for fatty liver replacement.

Dr. David :

hello?

Customer:

I asked is this reading very serious?

Dr. David :

no.

Dr. David :

it might not be very serious

Dr. David :

it depends on the cause of the elevation

Dr. David :

it could be temporary as well.

Dr. David :

one blood test is not enough to know how serious it is or not.

Dr. David :

hello?

Customer:

Not sure when you say might, please can you be more exact dose this reading mean very high, moderate, etc and can this mean liver disease? Many thanks

Dr. David :

100 is only slightly elevated

Dr. David :

the normal range is 10-40

Dr. David :

again one blood test is not enough to know if this is serious or not.

Dr. David :

you need more testing to see what is causing this

Dr. David :

do you drink alcohol?

Dr. David :

daily alcohol use can cause this sort of elevation.

Dr. David :

you also need testing to check your GGTP level

Dr. David :

and you need an ultrasound of the liver.

Dr. David :

and testing for hepatitis.

Dr. David :

I am not sure what you mean by "very serious"

Dr. David :

do you consider alcohol hepatitis serious?

Dr. David :

it could mean liver disease.

Dr. David :

but you need more testing.

Dr. David :

one blood test is not enough.

Dr. David :

does this make sense?

Dr. David :

ALT levels in 200-400 range is very serious.

Dr. David :

hello?

Customer:

I do drink sometimes! Is there any obvious symptoms of hepatitis?

Dr. David :

no.

Dr. David :

hepatitis just means inflammation of your liver

Dr. David :

or that your liver is inflamed.

Dr. David :

if your ALT level is 100, that is a sign the liver is inflamed.

Dr. David :

this can come from many causes

Dr. David :

like long term alcohol use

Dr. David :

or heavy paracetamol use

Dr. David :

or viral infection from hepatitis C or hepatitis B.

Dr. David :

there are blood test to check for viral hepatitis liver infection.

Dr. David :

so from just your one blood test of ALT, we don't know what is causing your liver issues.

Dr. David :

you need more test.

Dr. David :

and you might not have any pain with an ALT of 101

Dr. David :

are you willing to see your doctor and get more testing?
