Hi Since friday Ive been experiencing on and off frontal

Customer Question

Hi
Since friday I've been experiencing on and off frontal headaches, not severe and no nausea or vomiting. But I have been getting a lot of facial pressure around my nose and eyes and my ears keep popping. I've been taking decongestion tablets and trying to increase fluids but it still persists. Headaches are unusual for me and I'm starting to worry that its something more serious?

Hi--most likely this is a sinus infection and I'd suggest you not take any antihistamines or decongestants for it since those can actually make this worse. Instead you can try a Neti pot or a saline nasal irrigation system. Usually these resolve on their own without antibiotics but since this has been going on for a week you really should have a doctor take a look and see if you need antibiotics.

I considered sinuses but I don't have any nasal discharge? Is that normal? I heard sinus infection can take some time to resolve is that true? I have severe anxiety and I'm worried its a brain tumour from when I googled symptoms

Quite often there is no nasal discharge Kelly and using antihistamines or decongestants actually can prevent that. As I said, untreated, sinus infections can take up to ten days to resolve but sometimes antibiotics are needed. No, this isn't a brain tumor I promise you but please don't ever Google symptoms since that can scare the bejeesus out of people

Ok thanks you, what type of antibiotics are usually used to treat?

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 2 years ago.
I usually use Septra DS since that usually is very effective. An alternative would be Augmentin
