I had Bells Palsy in April till June and last week it came

Resolved Question:

I had Bells Palsy in April till June and last week it came back on the other side of my face. Someone said it is rare for it to come back are there any tests I can have to see what is causing it as it is ruining my life and I don't want it coming back every 2 months! Before I got it back I was feeling exhausted, had dizzy spells and terrible pain across my shoulders and neck and blurred vision. Can diabetes, thyroid or anemia cause this?

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

I am sorry you have gotten Bells palsy again.

Dr. David :

this can be from a viral infection affecting your facial nerves

Dr. David :

this can happen when your immune system is weak

Dr. David :

it sounds like you were exhausted and your immune system most likely has been exhausted as well.

Dr. David :

if you have diabetes and anemia and your thyroid levels are not controlled, these all can weaken your immune system.

Dr. David :

very high or low thyroid levels can cause you not to sleep well and cause your immune system to be weaker.

Dr. David :

when was the last time you had your TSH levels checked?

Dr. David :

diabetes can also cause your immune system and blood vessels and nerve systems to be weaker as well.

Dr. David :

anemia can be easily treated.

Dr. David :

you need to get your iron levels and B12 levels checked to see if they are low.

Dr. David :

these can be corrected and anemia usually can be corrected.

So do you recommend I ask doctor to give me a blood test to check for these?

Expert:  Dr. David replied 3 years ago.
yes, you should see a doctor to get these checked.

your thyorid, iron, B12 should be checked

your blood glucose and hemoglobin a1c levels need to be checked for your diabetes if you have diabetes.

best of luck to you
