Hi there, This is Dr Basu, Experienced Specialist. I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.
The most common explanation of occasional blood in the poo is the hemorrhoids inside the anal canal.
The hemorrhoids are formed from the swollen veins supplying the anal canal.
Due to the interrupted blood flow they can become swollen and start leaking blood.
THis is not a serious condition and can be treated easily.
Stool softeners like Metamucil should be taken daily to keep your stool soft and smooth.
you should avoid long sitting or weight lifting.
And consider sitting in a warm water filled bathtub regularly to relax the anal muscles.
but what would have caused this to happen
We only get concerned when the bleeding is regular and worsening.
In that case you will require further evaluation.
Otherwise, this is not concerning.
usually heavy lifting, long standing, straining for bowel movement increase the venous pressure
no its not all the time is once in a while
what could it be treated with
yes that is why this is common nothing bad
usually a good bowel regimen --avoid any hard stool, warm water bath
but why should my po at times feel sharp
good diet, avoid smoking, alcohol
sharpness means it is hard at the margins
happens when less fiber in diet and less fluid intake
i dont smoke or , alcohol
that is good less problem
modify your activities
i dont drink much dureing
avoid long sitting, standing or heavy weight lifting frequent
how much do you recomend i drink in a single day
fluids about 1.5 to 2 liters a day
i drink no ware near that i have about 2-4 cups of coffe a day
ok coffee makes you dehydrated as well
so increase your fluid intake
is water best to drink
water, juice, gatorade
how would that help
you will see the difference
fluids make your stool soft.
ok is there anything else i need to try/change
only water does not have any electrolytes.
that might belp
high fiber diet
fresh fruits, vegetables
less fat in diet --no fried stuff
my diet is high carbohydrate
bread eggs noodles
switch with fruits, vegetables
they have more fibers
is drinking fruite and veg better
as i dont like eating fruie and veg
in that case, take Metamucil 2 tablespoon daily
Metamucil is available in any pharmacy
what does Metamucil do
it is a fiber supplement
fibers and fluid will make your stool soft
you will never have any problem
ok ill look in to it
is it a liquid
