Hi, Thanks for your question. I'm Dr. Hasan and I'll try to help you. Since how long this has been going on? Have you tried anything so far? Any blood or mucus in stool? Any specific pain below rib cage on right side? Regards
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Ive had it on and off for a couple of yrs..pain is in mid lower rib cage, like a dull ache but relieved when I distend or relax my tummy muscles..no blood or mucus in stools. 8 times out of 10 stools are runny. Thank you

Thanks a lot for your input. I am sorry to hear about your problem. I am going to address your primary concern but later you can ask anything you want. As per symptoms there are multiple possible causes like irritable bowel syndrome, malabsorption syndrome, crohns disease (less likely), necrotising enterocolitis , pancreatic insufficiency etc. You definitely need to see your GP who should refer you to a gastroenterologist. You need to get a colonoscopy, CT scan abdomen, stool R/E, Stool for ova cysts and parasites, Stool culture etc. It is only possible in the light of these investigations to make a diagnosis. However in my opinion irritable bowel syndrome seems most likely. It is a disease which has no specific cause behind and is not dangerous as well but we can diagnose it only after we have ruled out other causes by investigations. Till you go, over the counter available Tylenol thrice daily and cap omeprazole 40 mg once daily can be tried for symptomatic relief. You should take OTC metamucil twice daily to increase the bulk of your stool. Don't worry, once diagnosed and treated, you will be fine. My best wishes are with you. I wish you good luck and that you get well soon. My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have received anything less, please reply back as I am happy to address follow-up questions. Kindly rate me when you are done. You can come back here to ask anything even after you have rated the answer. I will be glad to help you always. Regards

Thank you!! I'll make an appointment to rule out all causes. I do suffer from anxiety so ibs could be the problem. My sister got diagnosed with stage one cervical cancer today and I motioned me to address my health. Thanks again

You are most welcome. I am so sorry to hear about your sisters illness. May she get well soon. If you suffer from anxiety then IBS is quite possible because both are strongly linked. Don't worry you will be fine very soon. My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have received anything less, please reply back as I am happy to address follow-up questions. Kindly rate me when you are done. You can come back here to ask anything even after you have rated the answer. I will be glad to help you always.
