As a general rule, whenever one has bleeding in the stool, especially at your age would require a complete evaluation.
The most common cause of painless bleeding like what you are having is due to hemorrhoids (piles).
Other causes include anal fissure, polyp to name a few benign causes.
However, it is very important to exclude cancer which is why you definitely do need this evaluated.
Although the chances of this being cancer is much less as compared to the other causes that I mentioned but cancer is the major thing we want to rule out.
Also, as a rule, all people starting at the age of 50 should have colon cancer screening and the best test for colon cancer screening is a colonoscopy which is done at 50 years of age and then at an interval of 10 years from then on.
I would like that you should be referred to a gastroenterologist and have a colonoscopy done to make sure everything is okay.
