Customer Question

I have had diarrhea for 48 hours and initially a fever (up to 38.7) which has now subsided. I have taken an Imodium to ease some of the diarrhea symptoms. I am also now experiencing a localised pain on the left side of my stomach. Not severe but it comes and goes and lasts only for a second or so - what could be causing this?

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

I am sorry you have been having diarrhea.

Dr. David :

sometimes taking Imodium can cause constipation and hard stools which can cause pain as the hard stool travels through your bowels.

JACUSTOMER-j3epjw6e- : This started before taking Imodium and is localised
Dr. David :

if you have localized pain, you should see a doctor and get your abdomen examined.

Dr. David :

sometimes diarrhea itself can cause bowel spasms and cramps and pain which is localized.

Dr. David :

is it localized to upper or lower abdomen on the left side?

JACUSTOMER-j3epjw6e- : Ok - it is only mild pain - what could be causing this? Is it something that is common with diarrhea
JACUSTOMER-j3epjw6e- : Lower left
Dr. David :

yes, diarrhea can often cause bowels to cramp and cause mild localized pain

Dr. David :

usually it gets better with time as the diarrhea gets better.

JACUSTOMER-j3epjw6e- : Thank you - I'll see how it progresses
Dr. David :

you are welcome

Dr. David :

I hope you feel better.

Dr. David :

thanks.
