Yesterday afternoon I got a splitting headhache and very sore neck and shoulders. I went out to dinner and by the en of the meal I felt even worse. I got home and my temperature was 39.8C. Restless night drinking water and going between burning up and cold chills. Temperature made it down to 38.0 , but is now back up to 40.3C.

Hello

The concern here is far more specific than flu or viral infection.

The headache indicates the possibility of viral meningitis, as opposed to bacterial. But that is possible as well. That is the dangerous concern.

"Bloodwork" does not check for infection in this case, but if indicated by exam, a lumbar puncture.
