Customer Question

about 20 years ago I suffered a hemiplegic attack. At least that was what was diagnosed but I have always suspected it was a stroke because I was ill for a long time after. From time to time I have had problems with weakness on my left side. However this afternoon I was out shopping and my face started to twist up but only lasting for about thirty seconds. Should I be worried? I suppose I should point out that I am under a lot of stress at the moment

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

I am sorry about your stress you are under at this point

Dr. David :

how old are you?

Dr. David :

there is a chance it could have been a small stroke or a TIA or transient ischemic attack.

Dr. David :

any way you can decrease the stress?

Customer:

Hi Dr. David. I am 60years old

Dr. David :

you could have had a mild stroke or a TIA or transient ischemic attack before.

Dr. David :

anyway you can decrease the stress in your life?

Dr. David :

you should see your GP doctor and get a full neurological exam.

Dr. David :

and possibly a CT or MRI scan of your brain as well to be sure.

Customer:

is it urgent or should I leave it till monday

Dr. David :

I think you can leave it to monday since your symptoms only lasted for 30 seconds.

Dr. David :

and have resolved now

Dr. David :

stress can cause you to tense up facial muscles and cause increase tension in muscles and nerves.

Customer:

my face muscles didn't feel tense, the left side of my face was throbbing?

Customer:

or twitching

Dr. David :

I see.

Dr. David :

that sounds like benign fasiculations

Dr. David :

which are benign twitching of nerves and muscles

Dr. David :

which can happen with excessive anxiety and stress and with lack of sleep.

Customer:

so that's a good thing right, nothing to worry about?

Dr. David :

nothing to worry about

Dr. David :

it could also be from low potassium or low magnesium levels

Dr. David :

so you can try to get more potassium or magnesium into your system.

Dr. David :

good luck

Dr. David :

let me know if you have other questions.
