I am sorry about your IBS
you might need to take probiotics to help your IBS
there are medications which can help decrease gas like simethicone as well.
and more probiotics and yogurt in your diet can help decrease gas.
and avoiding beans and sodas and certain foods could help.
have you tried probiotics and yogurt in your diet?
you might need to see your doctor to get your stools checked for blood as well.
I have a healthy diet, too much fibre gives me wind anyway. I am now at just under 8stone having always been slim, but these symptoms are getting worse.
probiotics and yogurt will not cause more wind
medications like gasX can help your gas.
also there are prescription medications which can help IBS like Bentyl and hyoscyamine which can help your IBS symptoms.
have you tried simethicone before?
you could also be lactose intolerant or allergic to gluten protein as well
avoiding these foods could help your symptoms
No I have not tried simethicone before. Who can I go to to test for intolerance/allergic as I believe the Doctors do not that any more.
your GP doctor can start this testing
or refer you to a GI specialist for testing
and you can try avoiding gluten and lactose in diary to help
does this help?
do you have any other questions?
I will try no gluten/lactose for a while. No more questions.Thank You.
With this increase in symptoms, past age 50, we can not call this IBS.
A colonoscopy was indicated for screening at age 50, but with these bowel changes, is now mandatory.
It is not a situation where it is correct to say "you might have to have your stool checked for blood."
That should have been done yearly, but now, blood or not, colonoscopy. It is not true that probiotics do not cause gas. They do in some people. And, if you have small bowel overgrowth, probiotics typically make symptoms worse.
In fact, neither a GP or a typical specialist will do sensitivity testing for foods, as opposed to conventional allergy testing. For that [IgG testing] you need a specific type of doctor trained in this [functional medicine].
A hydrogen breath test can indicated if there is small bowel overgrowth.
Finally, 3 stool samples should be sent of parasite analysis, as giardia can be chronic, and the main symptom in this case is gas.
Simethicone can alleviate gas temporarily, but addresses no underlying cause of gas. Also we have not reviewed your diet, which could also be a problem.
