Hi, Thanks for your question. I'm Dr. Hasan and I'll try to help you.
Do you have a diagnosed medical problem like diabetes?
Have you started amitriptyline on your own?
Hi thank you for contact. I don't have such diagnosis. Tablets were prescribed
They were prescribed to you for this same problem?
because GP diagnose was neuropathic pain so I got them for this
You have this numbness and tingling just for one week?
Were you al right before that?
yes, it started suddenly this has never happen to me before
I am I can say rather healthy person
Any investigations done by your GP to diagnose you?
I am rather active with sport, good diet
they checked my general feeling of touch of hands and legs, spine, back
Do you feel this numbness anywhere else in body?
like this type of investigation towards e.g multiple sclerosis
3 days ago I started to feel this in the area of perineum and anus which is very uncomfortable
No like some x rays, blood work up etc?
Do you have lower back ache as well?
no, no back pain
Thanks a lot for your input. I am sorry to hear about your problem. I am going to address your primary concern but later you can ask anything you want.
In my opinion your GP has diagnosed you without any investigations and I really don't think so that you have neuropathy or anything serious like multiple sclerosis.
There are reasons behind this;
You don't have any diagnosed risk factor for neuropathy like diabetes.
You have just a week history of these symptoms.
So now the point is this that what it can be?
This is clear that the problem is in nerves but this is not that neuropathy which we get as a result of serious lesions.
This can be secondary to nerve compression in your spine
or this can be due to vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
I suggest that you should talk to your doctor to refer you to a neurologist and get your blood work up for vitamin B12 and other vitamins and minerals.
Till then you should take any OTC multivitamin that contains vitamin B12 and it can help you as it is good for nerves.
I was thinking to go to neurologist anyway
But I assure you not to be stressed for serious lesions.
Yes that's what you need to do.
We can't diagnose neuropathy just by a touch
but I coudn't get it from my GP - actually this was hard to get because I asked
no I am not.
But what can be the reason of secondary to nerve compression in spine?
In that case, you should see a neurologist privately or request your GP again
and do you think I should still take Amitriptyline?
Since your doctor has advised this medicine, yes you should take it because on web I can't interfere in your treatment but can give my suggestions.
could you tell me please what can be the reason of secondary to nerve compression in spine?
The nerves which supply our legs start from spine and if they get compressed due to any lesion in spine like some disc problem, we can feel the numbness and tingling in the areas supplied by those nerves.
You got my point?
but in case of discproblem should I feel pain?
because I am nor suffering from any pain now
Yes but not necessarily
It is just one possibility I have shared with you
There are other causes like vitamin B 12 deficiency which can do so.
The point is that you shouldn't be labelled with neuropathy without proper examination and investigations.
It is a big undertaking.
this is what I was thinking honestly I was unsatisfied with these two GPs but what in this case I should do
only one way is to go for private visit with neurologist
I strongly suggest you to visit a neurologist in any way.
Nothing is important than your health
I will do this. Thank you Dr Hasan
You are too young to have anything like neuropathy
I hope you will have nice day
